Hope Bringers

"This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls." Hebrews 6 :19 (NLT) Often the first thing we loose when times are hard and we are worried and discouraged is ‘Hope’.  We cannot connect with it , cannot find it, and when others speak of it we still remain ‘hopeless’.  It feels like hope has ‘shrivelled’ up and we are ‘floating ’ anchor less. Then along come those who reflect the love of God and we see ‘Hope’ in their eyes. Before long we remember that Hope is a person, Jesus himself! In these testing times we can ‘bring’ Jesus to others through a helping hand, a word of encouragement, by listening, loving and speaking truth, ‘pulling’ our faith over others in prayer. Jesus longs to continue ministering His Hope through people like you and me. May our gracious God give you His hope as you reach out as a bringer of hope to those  He lays on your heart today. Jesus and the strong man (Nico Marais)

As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed begged to go with him. Jesus did not let him, but said, “Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.” So the man went away and began to tell in the Decapolis[a] how much Jesus had done for him. And all the people were amazed. Mark 5:18-20 What precedes today’s passage is the well-known story of Jesus sending the demons from this man into a herd (or litter, depending on who you ask) of pigs that ultimately drown themselves.  The Bible says this man was so strong that chains could not hold him.  When he is set free from his demonic bondage he begs Jesus to come with Him.  Jesus says no and sends him back to his family, friends and his own people to share what Jesus has done for him. Waiting (James Clee)

Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realise that it was Jesus. John 21: 4 Waiting tests your patience. Waiting for Christmas, waiting for the delayed R68 bus, waiting for Liverpool to win the Premiership. As Jesus stood on the shore I wonder how long he had been waiting. He already had breakfast ready so I assume he must have been there for a while. But I imagine his waiting was full of excitement to see his friends, stood in anticipation, eager to see them again. I don’t think God’s character has changed. What a comforting reality that Jesus is always waiting for us, and He always will be, no matter how long we take. A prayer - Lord, thank you that you are always there, even when we turn away, you are still there waiting for us to come to you. Amen James Clee
