Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water.

I’ve been sea fishing once. I caught one mackerel and couldn’t stop throwing up for the rest of the four hour round trip.

At the end of their fishing trip, the disciples had probably just made one of the biggest catches in their fishing careers, 153 whoppers. But what I love is that Peter isn’t bothered. He isn’t distracted by the haul, or the potential wealth it could bring, all he wants to do is be with Jesus. I don’t think he even considers trying to walk on water again, instead he quickly puts some clothes on and jumps. He has one thought, ‘I’ve got to get to Jesus’.

A prayer - Lord, help us to be like Peter. Help us not to be distracted by things around us, but to have the same attitude and desire, to be willing to abandon everything, to be with you. Amen

The world waits

“The next day, the one after Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate. ‘Sir,’ they said, ‘we remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, “After three days I will rise again.”’” (Matthew 27:62, 63, NIV) Easter Saturday is a strange day. Either side are the world-changing events of Good Friday and Easter Sunday. In the middle, it would seem, nothing happens. The world waits, holding its breath to see what will happen next. The gospels record very little about the first Easter Saturday. Matthew alone tells how the religious leaders went to Pilate to ask him to guard the tomb. They request the soldiers to stand watch, who will later be terrified by the events of the resurrection on Easter Sunday. Convinced (James Clee)

Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. (Psalm 23:6)   We’ve been through good times, hard times, brokenness and blessings in Psalm 23. Now we’ve reached the conclusion, David, who wrote the psalm, is convinced that:  God is good.  God is merciful.  He is with us always now.  And we will be with Him forever. How convinced are you? Lord, thank you for the lessons in Psalm 23. Thank you that even though life will have its ups and downs, you will always be with us, now and forever. Amen
